Sharing & Permissions
The Permissions operation modifies file sharing settings in bulk. It provides five sub-operations covering the most common sharing changes.
Sub-Operations
Select a sub-operation from the dropdown in the configuration dialog:
Share with User
Share files with a specific person.
- Enter the recipient's email address (autocomplete suggests collaborators from your Drive)
- Choose a role:
| Role | Access Level |
|---|---|
| Reader | Can view the file |
| Writer | Can view and edit |
| Commenter | Can view and add comments |
Remove User
Remove a specific person's access from selected files.
- The dialog loads a list of people who currently have permissions on the selected files
- Select the person to remove from the autocomplete dropdown
This only removes direct permissions. Users with access through inherited folder permissions, domain-wide sharing, or organizational policies are not affected.
Make Public
Make files accessible to anyone with the link.
| Role | Access Level |
|---|---|
| Reader | Anyone with the link can view |
| Commenter | Anyone with the link can view and comment |
Writer is not available for public access.
Make Private
Remove all sharing. After this operation, only the file owner retains access. All other users — including those with direct permissions and link-based access — lose access.
Make Restricted
Set files to restricted mode. Only people who have been explicitly invited can access them. This disables link-based sharing while preserving existing direct permissions.
Folder Behavior
When folders are in the selection, the Include Subfolders checkbox controls whether the permission change applies only to the folder itself or also to all files within it.
