Actions
Move
The Move operation relocates files to a different folder in your Google Drive.
How to Move Files
- Select files in the file table
- Click Move in the selection toolbar (or right-click → Move)
- In the dialog, use the folder tree or search to find and select a destination folder
- Click Start
The destination folder is required before you can start the operation.
Flatten Option
When your selection includes folders, the Flatten toggle becomes available:
| Mode | Behavior |
|---|---|
| Flatten off (default) | Folders are moved as-is, preserving their internal structure and all nested content |
| Flatten on | All files from selected folders and their subfolders are extracted and placed directly into the destination. The original folder hierarchy is discarded. |
Flatten is useful when you want to consolidate files from a deep folder tree into a single location.
Drag and Drop
You can also move files by dragging them from the file table and dropping them onto a folder in the Explorer Panel. This is a quick alternative for moving a small number of files without opening the Move dialog.
Notes
- Moving files changes their parent folder in Google Drive
- Move requires elevated permissions (granted on first use)
- Moving a folder moves all its contents along with it
