Viewpoints Panel

Instead of seeing your files organized into Folders, sometimes you want to see them organized by shared Label or the value of an Info Field. That's what the Viewpoints Panel is for.

The Viewpoints Panel groups your files by metadata rather than folder structure — by label, by info field value, or by identical content. It provides alternative ways to browse and discover files that the folder hierarchy alone cannot offer.

Common Features

All Viewpoints tabs share these capabilities:

  • Search bar — filter the groups by name to find a specific label, field, or duplicate set
  • Folder scope — restrict the view to files within a specific folder
  • Click to reveal — clicking a file navigates the main file table to show that file
  • Click to filter — clicking a group's filter chip applies a filter to the file table

Labels Tab

Groups your files by their labels. A dropdown on the tab button lets you switch between:

  • Personal Labels — private to your account, stored locally
  • Shared Labels — stored as Google Drive custom properties, visible to all Drive Toolbox users with access

Each label appears as an expandable group showing the number of tagged files. Expand a label to browse its files. If a file is a folder, you can expand it further to see its children.

Click the filter chip on a label group to filter the main file table to all files with that label. This is one of the fastest ways to work with labeled files — click to filter, then select files and apply actions.

Info Fields Tab

Groups files by custom metadata field values. A dropdown switches between personal and shared info fields.

The tree has three levels:

  1. Field name — top-level grouping (e.g., "Status", "Department")
  2. Field value — distinct values for that field (e.g., "Active", "Archived")
  3. Files — individual files with that field value

Click a field name's filter chip to filter to all files that have any value for that field. Click a value's filter chip to filter to files with that specific value.

This is particularly useful for browsing files by project, status, or any other dimension you have defined with info fields.

Duplicates Tab

Groups files by identical MD5 checksums, showing sets of files with the same content. Each group displays a sample filename and the number of copies.

Expand a group to see individual files with their parent folder names for disambiguation. Click a file to navigate the file table to a flat view filtered by that checksum, showing all copies.

The Duplicates tab saves your previous view state (folder, view mode, filter) and restores it automatically when you leave.

Typical workflow: Find duplicates in the Viewpoints panel → click to filter → review in the file table → select the copies you want to remove → delete.
