Filters: Build Your List

Natural Language Filters

The Describe tab in the Filter Panel lets you write what you are looking for in plain language. The AI translates your description into a filter expression that you can review, edit, and apply.

This works in any language — you can describe what you need in English, Spanish, Japanese, or any other language, and get a filter expression back.

How to Use It

  1. Open the Describe tab in the Filter Panel
  2. Type a description of what you are looking for (up to 500 characters)
  3. Click Generate or press Enter
  4. Review the generated filter expression and its explanation
  5. Choose an action:
ActionWhat It Does
ApplyApply the filter to the file table immediately
EditCopy the expression to the Filter tab for manual editing
SaveSave the filter for future use

Example Prompts

  • "Show me files larger than 50MB that I haven't viewed in 6 months"
  • "Find spreadsheets shared with people outside my company"
  • "PDFs owned by someone else that I can edit"
  • "Files modified this week"
  • "Carpetas vacías en mi Drive" (Spanish: Empty folders in my Drive)

When the input field is empty, clickable example chips are displayed, including multilingual examples.

On first use, a consent dialog explains what data is sent for filter generation. If consent is declined, the Describe tab remains visible but generation is disabled. You can change your consent preference at any time in Settings.

Usage Quotas

Natural language filter generation has a usage quota. The remaining quota is displayed when it drops below 25%. The quota resets periodically based on your subscription tier.

Tips

  • Be specific: "PDFs larger than 10MB" works better than "big files"
  • Include the criteria you care about: owner, date range, file type, sharing status
  • If the generated filter is close but not quite right, click Edit and refine it manually
  • You can always check the generated expression against the Filter Language Reference
