Drive Toolbox Documentation

Drive Toolbox is a powerful desktop application for managing your Google Drive files.

Key Features

At the heart of Drive Toolbox, a powerful file filtering system allows you to find and list a precise set of files from your Google Drive. And with that list, you can great things.

Filters: Build your list

  • Advanced Filtering - Find and list a precise set of files from your Google Drive
  • Saved Filters - Name and save your filters
  • Audit your Google Drive - Identify files that you are sharing, and with whom
  • Visual Builder - Use a Visual Filter Builder to easily build the list you need
  • Natural Language Support - Describe the filter you want and let the bots generate it for you

Batch Operations: Perform actions on multiple files at once

  • Delete Files - Trash all files matching a filtered list
  • Manage Permissions Batch permission-management operations make a list of files public or private, or remove or add a particular user; or even remove all users matching a particular string, such as "@example.com"
  • Download Batch download operations, to retrieve all the files matching your filtered list

Get Organized: Labels, sorting & more

  • Custom Labels - Tag your files with custom labels
  • Custom Sort - View your files in their Drive folder structure, or as a flat list. Sort by name, date, size, etc.
  • Folder Size - Drive Toolbox shows you the total size of a folder's contents and you can sort you files and folders by size to see at a glance what is taking up all of your space

Robust Architecture: Enterprise-grade

  • Account Switching - You can easily switch between your Google Drive accounts, and with a Pro subscription you do not need a subscription for each one - manage up to 10 with a single subscription.
  • Sync to Drive - Drive Toolbox is a Desktop app so your custom labels and saved filters live on your own computer. But you don't have to do anything special to use the app on multiple devices. Drive Toolbox can back up and sync your saved labels and filters by storing them to your own Google Drive
  • Verified Security - Drive Toolbox has completed an independent Tier 3 security audit conducted by TAC Security, a Google-recommended auditor—exceeding Google’s Tier 2 requirement for our application
  • Enterprise Available - Enterprise accounts are available: with integrated Google OAuth, make Drive Toolbox available to everyone in a Workspace (contact: sales@clockwiselogic.com)

Privacy First

Drive Toolbox is a Desktop app and we never see any of your Google Drive data - nothing about your files is ever sent to our servers. Instead, data is stored on your own computer in a local database. We show you exactly where to find that database, in the Settings section of the Desktop app.

We do have a web app, and that has a backend where we store your login and account info, feature requests, bug reports, and so forth. We also store operational items, like a last sync timestamp if you are syncing your Drive Toolbox data to your Google Drive. (That helps us make the Sync to Drive feature work well - but all the Drive data is stored on your own computer, or your Google Drive!) See our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service for more details.

We do not share any of your data with anyone and we will never sell your data.

What doesn't Drive Toolbox do?

Our app does a lot! But it is not meant for creating new content. If you want to create a new file or folder - do that the normal way, using Google's Drive web interface, or Google's desktop Drive app.

Presently, you can't use Drive Toolbox to move files around; but that feature is on the roadmap.

What else do you want to see? Add a feature request!

Documentation Sections

These docs are a work-in-progress and we will continue to update and improve them. Download the app and give it a try - we hope you will find it both powerful and intuitive.

Filtering

As you will learn in the filter language docs, you do not need to learn Drive Toolbox's filtering language to use it. You can write what you are trying to do in any language, and we'll generate the filter expression for you to review and test. You can also use the Visual Filter Builder to build expressions with a field selector that describe every possible filter and how it works.
