Personal Filing System

Your Personal Filing System allows you to attach labels and custom metadata to any file in your Google Drive, even if you don't have write access to it.

What Makes It Personal?

These are your own personal details about a file, and they are stored in your own private database - not attached to the file itself. This means:

  • Only you can see them - Your personal labels and info fields are completely private
  • No Drive permissions needed - Organize any file, even if you only have view access
  • Unlimited organization - Add as many labels and custom fields as you need
  • Local storage - All metadata is stored in your local database, not in Google Drive

Personal Labels

Personal labels are private tags you can add to any file. Use them to:

  • Categorize files by project, priority, or any custom system
  • Mark files for follow-up or review
  • Create your own filing taxonomy independent of folder structure

  1. Select one or more files in the file list
  2. Click the Apply Labels button in the toolbar
  3. Type label names or select from existing labels

You can also:

  • Right-click a file and select Apply Labels
  • Use the expanded metadata panel to manage labels for a single file
  • Filter files by label using: label:"your-label-name"

Personal Info Fields

Personal info fields are custom metadata fields you can define and attach to files. Examples include:
